Curved Shower ScreenThe curved shower screen is probably the most popular type of overbath screen but it suffers from one main drawback - it is permanently on display. This can be a real disadvantage especially when installed in a small bathroom as it can have the efect of cutting the room in half and making it feel even more enclosed. The standard construction consists of a flat plane of safety glass usually with an arched top, which is attached to a wall post via a hinge. A rubber or pvc strip runs along the bottom of the screen which forms a seal with the top of the bath. The screen can pivot around but cannot usually be folded flat against the wall as they are usually too wide and its path would be obstructed by the bath taps and the shower fittings. Another drawback with a curved shower screen is that it does not protect a long enough section of the bath from shower spray (see diagram above left) - compare the extra protection offered by the Outasight (above right). The screen needs to be installed so that the strip at the bottom is squashed down onto the bath to forma good seal. This has the diasadvantage of making the screen dificult to move and can result in the seal splitting. and to buy a replacement seal is not always possible. It also means that the screen tends to left in place all of the time which can hinder acess to the taps or shower controls. |
